Secure Solution For NHS Hospital
A bespoke aluminium rainwater and fascia system has been fitted to a secure psychiatric hospital in Birmingham.
Hillis Lodge is part of the Birmingham and Solihull Mental Health NHS Foundation Trust and provides treatment to users with mental health problems who have committed a criminal offence or displayed serious aggressive or threatening behaviour.
Consisting of bullnose fascia, coping, soffit and box gutter, the entire system was manufactured by Husk Architectural, part of the Guttercrest Group who are based in Shropshire and specialise in aluminium building products.
The custom-made aluminium bullnose fascia wraps around the single-story building’s eaves to provide a secure, anti-climb solution to the exterior. Finished in a polyester powder coating in RAL9017; Traffic Black matt, the fascia conceals a hidden aluminium box gutter system for rainwater disposal.
The fascia is combined at several locations around the building with soffit and coping to ensure a secure finish and protection of the building’s eaves. The coping is uniquely shaped into a bullnose curve to cover the remaining parapet walls.
Guttercrest’s aluminium building products were chosen for this project thanks to their robust and flexible nature. The lightweight products are easy to fit and provide a long-lasting finish on any building. They also have green credentials, being 100% recyclable at the end of their service life.
