Choosing the Right Gutter Profile
Choosing the right aluminium gutter profile for your home
Guttercrest offer a range of aluminium gutter profiles for both traditional and contemporary homes. When choosing which gutter to buy there are several important things to consider.
Address Shortfalls in Design
When replacing gutters it is an opportunity to address any shortfalls with the current system, such as increasing flow capacity or the addition of further downpipes.
This will be indicated by a failure of the current system to contain the rainwater volume which will result in overflowing water during heavy rainfall.
It is essential that new gutters are an appropriate size for the pitch and size of the roof to avoid water overflow. Flow calculations can be carried out by the Guttercrest Technical team so please feel free to contact us if you need assistance.
Appropriate style of gutter
Firstly, it is important to consider the look and style you are trying to create. This will be heavily influenced by personal preference but will also be guided by the age and style of your property.
Older properties lend themselves to a more traditional style of gutter, those with shaped fronts and decorative additions, such as a beaded deep flow or a moulded ogee gutter.
A more contemporary style might be more in keeping with a modern home where gutters without decoration or patterns are used to achieve simple, clean lines such as a half round or a box gutter.
Guttercrest Gutter Profiles:
Half Round Gutter Profile
Inspired by 19th century guttering that was traditionally found on smaller properties and agricultural buildings, our half round aluminium guttering is now a popular choice due to its appealingly simple profile shape.
It’s popular on modern homes as it offers a clean, smooth profile and is also a familiar choice for industrial and office buildings that aim for a simple, uncluttered exterior.
It is a cost-effective gutter choice but is one of the shallower profiles, limiting the amount of rainwater it can carry. This makes it most suitable for smaller roofs on terraced and semi-detached houses and smaller commercial buildings.

Beaded Deep Flow Gutter Profile
Similar in shape to half round gutters, our beaded deep-flow gutters offer a slightly more decorative appearance with a deeper profile making it more suitable for those who favour a more traditional look to their homes or those who have a larger roof and therefore require a greater flow capacity.
Also inspired by 19th Century guttering, the beaded deep-flow gutter profile is a simple rounded profile that is finished with a decorative bead along the outer edge, increasing the design element of the gutter.
This added beading makes the beaded deep-flow gutter style more suitable to a traditional look on both older and newer properties.

Victorian Ogee
Our Victorian Ogee gutters, also known as OG or Old Gothic, have a distinctive decorative profile that is based on the traditional cast-iron guttering of the 19th Century.
This profile offers a stylish, traditional look that would have originally been found on mid-sized Victorian properties and is most suited to period homes. It can, however, look just as at home on a traditionally styled modern property.
This gutter profile is fairly shallow, making it more suitable to medium sized properties with smaller roofs that require a modest flow capacity.

Moulded Ogee
Moulded Ogee aluminium gutters, also known as No. 46 gutters or Type 46 gutters, are a traditionally styled gutter based on the characteristic look of 19th Century cast-iron guttering.
Originally, this style of guttering would have been most commonly found on large, detached period buildings where their flat base allowed them to sit snuggly on decorative corbels.
This profile, with its decorative front profile and clean, flat base, is now a popular choice for both period properties and modern buildings where the owners desire to achieve a decorative, traditional look.
Moulded Ogee gutters have a deep profile and are therefore an appropriate choice for large buildings or buildings with a steep pitch to their roofs.
Key Features: Traditional | Decorative | Large Flow Capacity
Box Gutters
Box gutters are the popular choice to provide a contemporary look with simple, clean lines and are most appropriate for modern properties.
Their square profile offers a neat guttering solution as they are fixed directly to the eaves of the building, resulting in a flush fit without brackets, giving an uncluttered appearance.
Our aluminium box gutters provide a large flow capacity, making them suitable for homes with larger roofs.
Key Features: Modern | Clean Lines | Large Flow Capacity | No Brackets Required
Shaped and Raked Box Gutter
Similar in style to our plain box gutters, aluminium shaped and raked box gutters offer the same crisp look with simple, clean, refined lines but with a slightly more styled profile to the front. This style of gutter looks most at home on contemporary properties where it provides an uncluttered finish to the property eaves.
Shaped and raked box gutters provide a large water carrying capacity, making them suitable for homes with larger roofs or properties that are located in areas that commonly experience heavy rainfall.
Key Features: Modern | Clean Lines | Large Flow Capacity | No Brackets Required
Bullnose Gutter
Aluminium bullnose gutters have a distinctive curved profile to the front offering a simple, unobtrusive profile that is most suitable for modern buildings and is commonly seen on architecturally designed commercial projects and large scale industrial buildings.
Aluminium bullnose gutters are also used on contemporary homes where they provide stylish, modern lines to the eaves design.
